Description

Botanical Name: Asparagus racemosus
Origin: India

Shatavari, or Asparagus racemosus, is a species of asparagus that is common throughout India. The plant has small, uniform green leaves, tiny white flowers, and numerous tuberous roots. These roots have been used in Ayurvedic medicine for centuries and are considered to have supportive properties for the reproductive system. Shatavari root can be incorporated into herbal formulations, infused as tea, and used to create a liquid extract.

Shatavari is highly regarded as an herb for women’s health and it is the most important herb in Ayurvedic medicine to support fecundity. The name Shatavari is from an Indian word meaning “a woman who has a hundred husbands”. Shatavari is a member of the Liliaceae plant family.
