Activated Cacao Nibs from Ora Cacao

from Semuliki Forest, Uganda

Activated cacao nibs are magical because you’re ingesting the seeds that could grow a cacao tree, full of potential for the future. You’re invited to meet cacao with gratitude in your heart while contemplating your vision of a beautiful future.

Most people think of cacao nibs as a healthy, chocolatey snack to add to trail mix, smoothies, or baked goods. But the cacao nibs have a story long before they get to us, connecting us to peoples and ecosystems across the world.

We source the highest quality fermented cacao beans from regenerative family farms (not monoculture cacao plantations), lightly roast them in micro batches (it’s an obsessive art form), and shell and crack them into small pieces (voila! cacao nibs). This careful sourcing and minimal processing gives our nibs a rich, nutty flavor…and has social impact.

Our organic cacao is grown in a regenerative agroforestry project in the Rwenzori Mountains of Uganda, part of the headwaters of the Nile River. 50% of the small-holder farmers are women and 70% are under 35, so with these cacao nibs, you’re supporting the next generation of farmers and protecting a diverse ecosystem.

Benefits of Cacao

Many ceremonial cacao lovers report a notable impact on their mood. There is substantial science that explains why ceremonial cacao is so beneficial. Pure cacao contains beneficial neurotransmitters and neuro-modulators already present in our brain. It also contains reuptake inhibitors that block the pathways that our bodies normally use to break down and recycle these beneficial mood altering molecules, so the good mood lasts for longer. In the long term, regularly working with ceremonial cacao can have therapeutic health benefits, including creating new neural pathways that change our daily experience to include more joy, love, and connection.

Working with cacao regularly can result in long term beneficial changes in brain function, primarily through the reinforcement of neural pathways that include more joy, love, presence, and connection. There is ample evidence for the neuroplasticity of the human brain, and regularly ingesting cacao with all of its beneficial neuromodulators and correlated reuptake inhibitors could have long term impact on dominant neural pathways.
